BORN:  May 12, 1970

HOME:  Bright's Grove Ontario, Canada

TURNED PRO:  1992

FIRST VICTORY:  Air Canada Championship in 1999

FIRST MAJOR VICTORY:  The Masters in 2003

FAMILY:  Has a wife Bricia Weir and two daughters

 

Weir grew up like every other Canadian boy, loving Wayne Gretzky and the game of hockey. His interests quickly changed from those on the ice, to those on the course. From the age of 11, Weir could always be found hitting balls into the lake near his home in Bright's Grove Ontario rather than skating around on a rink. Now at the age of 32, Weir is known throughout the golfing world and is considered to be one of Canada's finest. After a great junior career, Weir attended university. He went to Brigham Young University, studying Recreation Management. His university career found him winning three events and finishing in the top ten 19 times. After winning the 1993 Tournament Players Championship and the CPGA Rookie of the Year award, Weir quickly moved up the ranks. Weir turned pro in 1992. In 1996, Weir had his first breakthrough on the PGA tour, finishing tied for 5th at the Greater Vancouver Open. After another great performance on the PGA tour in 1997, Weir joined full time. From here Weir has won eight different tournaments world wide including one major.  The tournaments that Mike Weir has won are as follows:
